Questions, answered

What's in the box?

Your MASU felt yurt, the real walnut shanyrak for the top, and a small thank-you card from us.

What is the MASU yurt made of?

A felt body with a traditional ornament, topped with a wooden roof top, the “shanyrak”. The shanyrak is made of real walnut wood with a clear lacquer finish.

What size is it?

One standard size, made for most cats: 38 cm across and 33 cm tall, with a door of about 18 × 18 cm. Fits kittens and adult cats up to about 6.8 kg.

What is a “shanyrak”?

It's the wooden roof top of a traditional Central Asian yurt, the round opening where light comes in. On the MASU yurt it's a real walnut ring that crowns the roof.

How is the yurt packed and shipped?

To keep delivery costs low and the box compact, the yurt is gently folded, a bit like a hat, and packed in a sturdy cardboard box. Before it leaves us, each yurt is unfolded, steamed to restore its shape and checked by hand, then folded and packed. When it arrives, take it out and unfold it. It returns to shape within a day. If you see a light fold line, a steamer on a low setting smooths it away, and the line fades over time.

How do I clean it?

Remove fur with a lint roller or vacuum brush and wipe marks with a damp cloth. It is not machine washable.

What if my cat doesn't use it right away?

Cats take their time with anything new. Place the yurt where your cat already likes to nap and give it a few days. If it still isn't their thing, you can return it (see below).
