Zhaidary, or Zhaiya, has lived in Kazakhstan, Norway, Uzbekistan, Turkey and France. Ten years in Norway made it her second home. But it was life abroad that brought her closest to her roots.
She looks at her own life through what she calls her little Kazakh heart. Traditional ornaments and cultural motifs came into her work on their own, and she gives them new meaning in a contemporary visual language.
She loves working with her hands: sewing, felt, pencil and oil pastel. Texture and material matter to her. Digital illustration lets her bring the same language to textiles, clothing and collaborations with brands.
