Aliya Tleukhanova is a textile artist and graphic illustrator from Kazakhstan. She studied for ten years at the Art Academy in Almaty, specializing in textile art. Working primarily with the traditional Kazakh crochet embroidery technique known as biz keste, she reinterprets heritage motifs through a contemporary lens.
Her practice explores Kazakh identity, ornamental traditions, personal memory, and cultural symbolism. Through embroidered panels and interior objects such as tablecloths, lamps, wooden stools, and benches, Aliya turns fabric into a medium for preserving and rethinking visual heritage.
As a mother of two, she balances family life with her studio practice. Her love for embroidery and fabric comes from their softness, delicacy, and tactile nature, which she sees as essential to connecting people with the quiet beauty of handmade craft.
